Gaya Sa Pelikula

Last Friday, was a one hell of a ride day for me. It's literally a roller coaster of feelings. You know, when you ride a roller coaster, it'll start slow, boring, and then comes physics and gravity. You'll be pulled, and will be carried away that you can't help but scream. And at the end of it, it's either you'll be stunned and will decide not to do it again or you'll laugh and will alight the ride with a big grin on your face and you'll shout with happiness..."Woo! That's awesome!". I had the latter.
and no, just when I thought it's like an extreme ride, it went "Gaya Sa Pelikula".
At least, the rom-com ones with really cheesy and happy ending!
Why? 'Cause I ended it with the premiere of the much awaited BL series "Gaya sa Pelikula" by the Awit Awards winner and the OG spoken word artist Juan Miguel Severo.
Hindi ko matago 'yung saya ko nang mapanood ko ang first episode. It was just ...pure.. fun!
I love everything about it. Wala akong mapintas. Opening credits pa lang, nakakamanghang pinoy na pinoy ang treatment ng graphics sa paggamit ng mga tagalog terms gaya ng "prodyuser", "pinuno" at iba pa. The sound is also on point. The music? oh! grabe Kakie and UDD! It's like every mood we need during this pandemic.
And do I still need to mention about the script? Ang oa ko na sa kaka-"grabe" but it's really gorgeous! Ang galing mo kuya Gege! One thing I really appreciate about great screenplays is when it sounded so natural that you can really say that it is what we see in our daily lives. And I think, Kuya Gege and the screenplay team did a great job on doing that.
At 'yung kulay? Nostalgic, warm at very Thai-like. I don't know? Paying homage? Nonetheless, it made a big impact to relay the "feels" to the audience. Sa acting, I like that it's pure and raw. Maybe because they're new actors in this platform. Pero kahit na alam mong baguhan, natutuwa akong magaling sila para sa baguhan. Oh well, Ian Pangilinan playing the role of the cocky neighbor Vlad is theater actor. Given na 'yung pagiging magaling niya. On the other hand, ramdam ko 'yung innocence, rawness and potential sa portrayal ng Med Student na si Paolo Pangilinan sa lead role na si Karl. Overall, I love that they have a really good chemistry. And oh! Ate Zhu-dit or Juuuu-dit, and yes without an "H" is also on point! I'm ready to fall in love with her. Kaway-kaway sa mga walang valid IDs pero VALID! Yes! you are valid! Uwu! I'm not crying! You are!
And who else loves pancakes?
I love pancakes! but more than pancakes, I love that GSP, in their first episode succeeded on being a love letter to not just the LGBTQ community but also to the public that just like any other heteronormative rom-com movies, and series, we can also feel the same amount of "kilig" with series like "Gaya Sa Pelikula", series and projects that not just flaunts artistry and talent but also the normality and humanity of falling in love. You know, love is love. As cliché as it may seem, but love is love. It knows no person and most importantly, it knows no gender.
