I really don't know how to start this. I'm in mixed emotions right now. I'm sad for a lot of us lost another something to look forward to end our week. Yet, though it has ended, I'm happy that they ended it well--really well. Also, they announced that they have season 2 and of course they'll now turn the spotlight to the favorite "bestfriend" this quarantine had--Pearl for her "Pearl Next Door".
Call this overreaction but "great" is an understatement to define Gameboys. Just like any other projects, it's not perfect. It has its fair share of inconsistencies in their story settings having it set in this time of pandemic. But those were just little details (i.e. earlier in the story Cai's brother, London, message him it's already covid free but they still went on the quarantine plot, also the inconsistent birthdays of Cai and Gav in their socmed accounts) that were easily swept by other great aspect of the series.
In terms of script, I love that it's unapologetic, brave and I don't know if it's the right term but ---it's latest. Maybe, it's also the reason why it has become successful for it captured the most stressed market in this quarantine--the millennials. With its slangs and gay linggos, the series was a hit for being relatable for many audiences. Just like any other BL series, I'm also happy that somehow, though it's just subtle, it touches the sensitive issue of societal acceptance of LGBT community. But more than this, what made me love the series even more is how it depicts modern parents being supportive and accepting of their LGBT child not because they don't have options, but because they really love their kid. Moreso, that they can risk their life to show and tell their son that "I know. It's ok and I love you." The script is so great that the actors went on for a treat performances. Walang tapon sa lahat ng artista. Lahat magagaling. Elijah Canlas was just perfect for the role. Hindi kulang, hindi sobra--just the right amount of depiction the role requires. Ghaddd! and his crying skills? Topnotch! Eh kung iyakan lang din naman, hindi pahuhuli si Kokoy De Santos. He has proven his talent in Fuccbois but I'm surprised that he can still do great--and I'm excited to see more of his greatness for other projects and of course for the second season. Kyle Velino and Miggy Jimenez were raw and fresh but you'll see potential. I just hope that for the second season, we'll get twice the kilig for having their character fall for each other 🤞. Here, Sue Prado also proved that she's an awesome versatile actress. And of course, Adrianna So! Ugh! grabe! She's just perfect! Ang oa, but she's really great! She's too effective in her role that a lot of us wishes we have a "Pearl" in our life! You know? That crazy ass bestfriend who's willing to go beyond just to support you, cheer for you, and be genuinely happy to see that you're happy! She deserve her own break and we're just so happy that The Ideafirst Company will give her one. Now, that's something to look forward too--and we just can't wait! Beke nemen? Ideafirst, puwede bang next week na ilabas 'yan? Lols Chour not chour! Another thing to applaud about this series is the efficiency and diligence of its actors to act while also shooting, putting up their own set from their own homes and getting instructions and directions remotely from their production team. Indeed with talent and will, you can really deliver. Kaya mas nakakabilib! Kudos din sa editing and post-prod team for effectively setting it like our favorite social media platforms. Ang galing din ninyo!
And sa finale--- damn! It's just more than half an hour but it's enough! and thank you sealing it with a genuine kiss!
Maayos na script, magaling na acting, mahusay na pagkakalatag ng editing, at nakakabilib na direksiyon-- Gameboys really set the bar high for the usual BL series that we're watching.
Thank you so much for helping us cope with this pandemic.
Thank you so much for letting us feel the all the human emotions that we somehow forget due to the anxiety for our tomorrow. Thank you-- just thank you! Ang cheesy na nito, but who cares! Ideafirst, you guys are great!
Anyway, for those who haven't watched the series or for those who just want to relive the "kilig" feels, you can still watch all of the 13 episodes of Gameboys in The Ideafirst Company youtube channel!
